Filing a complaint against your Payment Protection Insurance (PPI) provider is one way to claim back your money if you feel you have been sold payment protection insurance unfairly, or that you have been unjustly denied a legitimate claim against your Payment Protection Insurance policy.

Most complaints brought against PPI lenders are based on mis-selling insurance, refusal of compensation or refunds on single-premiums that were paid upfront but where the loan has been paid off early.

If you want to make a complaint against your PPI lender, it is best to find out as much as possible about the complaints procedure to be certain you are making an effective complaint.

First steps in making a Payment Protection Insurance complaint

The first step in making a complaint to your PPI lender is to send a complaint letter directly to them so they have a chance to respond and look into the complaint.

If your lender refuses to take action on your complaint, you can involve the Financial Ombudsman Service (FOS). The FOS is a free dispute resolution service that will make a decision on the dispute which is final.

The regulator for financial services (FSA) tend to look unfavourably upon companies that have sold single-premium up-front fee loan protection insurance where they will not offer a refund of the some of the premium if the loan is paid off early. If you would like more information on this because you think you have been sold a single-premium policy unfairly click here for the regulators view.
