A CCJ is a County Court Judgement - the decision made by a court in respect to whether you owe money to a creditor. CCJ Enforcement is the enforcement of a County Court Judgement in a claim for repayment.
A creditor may submit a claim for repayment to a county court, which will then contact you to advise that a summons has been made. At this point, you can repay the amount and settle the situation immediately, either in full, or over a period of time, which will result in no further action being taken against you.
If you do not agree with the creditor's claim for repayment, a private court hearing will take place, which you choose to attend.
The court will then decide whether you are in debt to the creditor and, if it finds in favour of the claimant, the County Court Judgement can then be enforced in a number of different ways.
County Court Judgement Enforcement
CCJ Enforcement can occur if you do not, or cannot, pay your debts.
CCJ Enforcement can be a stressful experience, and can lead to significant credit issues if you pursue a stance of non-payment that is contrary to the County Court Judgement, not least increased costs.
You do, however, have a number of options available in your defence, such as delaying payment until you are financially able, or requesting that the court re-evaluate the repayment instalments.
